Comic Salon Welcome

I more or less spontaneously decided to pay the Comic Salon 2008 a visit on Saturday. I never had a better chance to go to a comic convention, as Erlangen is just approximately 30 minutes away by train and my student ID works as a ticket for half the way, therefore the train ride is very cheap, too. The reason why I had a hard time choosing was because the NPD was having their party congress in Bamberg at the same time and most of my friends went there to demonstrate against them and I wanted to join in. In the end I settled with going to the Comic Salon on Saturday, while I went to demonstrate against the NPD on Sunday.

I wish my apartment had a terrace or a balcony. I could enjoy my manga, drink some ice coffee and get a bit more tanned at the same time! Alas, I don’t possess such a noble and bourgeois thing and have to settle with manga and an occasional coffee, while the sun shines through my windows. June certainly does provide me with quality manga. It has some promising continuations, mixed with some intriguing one-shots. And I hope they’ll live up to my expectations and deliver the relaxation, now that university work picks up pace.

The review of the third volume took much longer than I expected with some real life stuff kicking in and all. With this, I only have volume 4 to review and then I’ve caught up with the German releases, until September.

The volume 1 cover was in red and volume two in blue, so it’s time for another primary color: green. This cover adorns a Kyoko in a slightly submissive pose displaying a weird oni tattoo or drawing on her back, maybe to represent a stigma of her past; if she actually has one, we shall see. As usual the city landscape fills the background and a modern font is used for the actual title (on the German cover).

After an eventful week-end I’m back to post the manga releases for June. It contains some very interesting releases, Benjamin’s Remember being one of them, more about that one later in my Comic Salon report. I also anticipate the two one-shots from Egmont, and to be honest every other seinen releases this month. Without further ado, here’s the list:

The Comic Salon 2008 is coming up! The biennial comic convention will take place in Erlangen from May 22nd until 25th. The three big German manga publishers will be present and some of them have star guests attending, one of them being Eiki Eiki via Egmont. She’ll sign autographs at the respective panel throughout the convention and on Sunday there will be an interview held.

As the last of the three big German publisher Carlsen released their list of new licenses today. I will again not order the releases by publisher, but instead by genre. This time it’s not as colorful as the post before, as I only list the three major German publishers (and because the others have yet to announce any new licenses).
