Here are Carlsen’s own bestsellers for 2008. I was surprised to see Neon Genesis Evangelion and Chibi Vampire rank so high, but besides that, nothing else strikes my eyes. If you wonder why Bleach isn’t on the list, the answer is because it’s Tokyopop.de’s license!

Still no manga charts by Media Control GfK. I wonder how long it’ll take for them to get into business! Instead, Carlsen posts their own bestsellers once more.

The previous rank doesn’t relate to the actual volume, but to the respective series. Each series is only represented by one volume. I use the RE, as re-entry into the list.

I guess I was wrong when I promised that the transition phase will be over and the new compiled German Manga Charts would be ready in July. Instead Carlsen published their own new bestseller list. I’m not sure if they’ll continue it; but Tokyopop happens to publish a weekly Top 20 of their manga.

Carlsen now decided to not list the series but instead the highest ranking volume of the respective series. Each series is only mentioned once; otherwise the list could very well be renamed the “Naruto Chart”. Special editions – like the Naruto ones – count as a separate series though.

Note that some manga don’t appear on the list because titles sell particularly well during the first few weeks; e.g. Vampire Knight is the bestselling shoujo manga at the moment, but as its last volume was published in March, it’s not at the top of the shoujo properties.

Also keep in mind that some specific properties sell very well over time. If this list consisted of time frames of half a year or more, Dragon Ball for example, would definitely be on it.
